Homage, a piece by Rohan Zhou-Lee and Kitt Lyles
InLINE, In/habit roving art series,
Chicago Cultural Center, July 2017
Homage pays tribute to the Asian Americans who have
experienced police brutality in the United States. From
Cau Bich Tran to Bounkham Phonesavanh, to Hussein
Shehada and Sureshbhai Patel, we hope that this piece
will inspire people to learn more about these people and
so many more Asian Americans whom have been
maimed or murdered by systematic violence. Solo
interprations of Charles Mingus's Goodbye Pork Hat,
Billie Holiday's Strange Fruit, and nally Mingus's Haitian
Fight Song are paired alongside partially choreographed
and partially improvised dance to draw parallels
between the Black and Asian Diasporic traumas of
historic state violence.
